Eclipsed - A Poem By Lauren Fleshman

How many stories
Do we tell ourselves
When the moon
Eclipses the sun?
When our plans
Have come undone,
And we sit
Examining mirrors
In the untimely dark?
That we were stupid
For conceiving or
Ever trying or
Believing or
Breathing life
Into a certain Never Was.
Yes, the Earth did miss
The expected bliss
The deepest
Photosynthetic kiss
But the sun?
The sun lost nothing
But our attention
While her momentary refraction
Offered brilliance
To the dark side
Of our moon.
