Story Behind the Style: Lori Shorts

By
Style

Re-launching the Lori Shorts is like crossing paths with an old friend from college. We haven’t seen each other in years, but after a few minutes, it’s just like old times – logging miles and races and trail runs!

(Flashback to Olympic Trials 2012: Rebekah MacKay, future Oiselle runner Lauren Penney and runner and employee Heather Stephens. Syracuse teammates at the time!)

The story of the Lori Shorts starts with the design. I wanted a wider waistband running short – to help with making a shirred waistband more flattering. Flatter is better. And wider is more flattering. I wanted a short that had the performance chops to log mile after mile, but that had the attitude of a board short. Surfs up – the Lori was born!

Lori was named after my friend Lori Hinton, one of our first sales reps, and an early believer in Oiselle. After me, she was the first person to share the line with local running shops, hoping to book orders for our small but growing company.

This week we were lucky enough to have Lauren Fleshman in town to take a spin in the Lori Shorts. She makes everything look fast!

In terms of fit, the Lori is like a sister to the Distance Shorts. In a short to short comparison here's how they shake out:

DIFFERENCES
- Lori Shorts are approximately 1” longer in the front leg
- Flatter, wider waistband with a three-stitch detail
- Single front zip pocket plus internal/liner pocket (Distance Shorts have additional rear zip pocket)

SIMILARITIES
- Same lightweight Plya™ Woven body fabric
- Lightweight liner, rear coverage and side seam length
- Draw cord

This is my favorite part of the design and creation process, handing the shorts to you! I'm personally so excited to grab the Lori Shorts, that classic kick-around, mile hungry short ready to run. Let us know what you think and as always share your look and adventures with #flystyle on Twitter and Instagram
